M.Y.O.A. - Mind Your Own Anger

Helping Middle Schoolers (Grades 6-8) Understand and Manage

Anger

 

Saturdays 10:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.            February 2 - March 15, 2008

A parents' group and a children's group will run simultaneously.  The

purpose of this group is that children will

gain insight in their anger (what makes them angry

learn to identify anger trigger

gain concrete skills to manage anger.

The Children's Group will focus on

what happens when you're angry,

the different kinds of anger,

using anger in positive ways,

calming your body down when seeing red,

becoming peacemakers  

 

The Parents' Group will discuss

staying calm when your child is angry,

how to have empathy when seeing red,

setting limits without blaming or shaming,

and teaching peacemaking.

Adult Children of Alcoholics & Addicts Group

Putting the Pieces Back Together

Many "adult children" grew up in homes where the family avoided sharing feelings.  There was little nurturing, rigid rules, and little time  or energy was given to meeting the emotional needs of the children. "Adult children" often have unresolved pain that is still impacting their lives in ways that they would like to change.

When:           Thursday Evenings, 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.  

                       January 17 - March 27 (No group on Feb. 21)

Where:          Samaritan Interfaith Counseling Center

                       1819 Bay ScottCircle, Suite, 109, Naperville, IL  60540

Group           

Leader:       Jaimee Huseman, LCSW, CADC, CHT

Purpose:       The purpose of this group is to help you heal and recognize how your present

                        life is influenced by your past; to allow you to release part of the past you would

                        like to put behind you; and to enable you to take responsibility for how you live

                        your life today.

Fee:               $45.00 per session

                       This group may be covered by insurance.  It is not our intention that anyone   

                        be excluded because of financial restraints.  Fee subsidy may be arranged.

A 10 week commitment is required.  The group is limited to 10 members.  As a group member you must agree to respect the privacy and confidentiality of other group members.

Therapy Group for Parents of  Children on the Spectrum

Opportunities for Growth in Wholness and Health for Parents Living with a Child on the Spectrum

Mondays       7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.               January 7, 14, 21, 2008

                                                                            February 4, 11, 2008

Purpose:

To provide a place for parents to put words to their internal experience of the     challenges and joys of having a child or children on the spectrum.

To share experiences and encourage one another on this journey.

To work through anxiety, guilt, self-doubt, grief, struggles with time management,   dealing with schools and service providers, and other issues that arise in having              a child with special needs.

Group Leader:   Gail Meyer, LCSW        

                              Gail is on the National Registry of Group Psychotherapists and has led   

                               therapy groups for the last 19 years.

Fee:  $50.00 per session                It is not our intention that anyone be excluded because

                                                             of financial restraints.  Fee subsidy may be arranged. 

                                                             Charge for the six weeks irrespective of attendance.  

                                                             Insurance will not cover a missed session.

Session 1           Finding the twinkle in your child's eye - celebrating your child's gifts.

Session 2           Shattered hopes and dream - facing the grief and finding meaning in living a 

                              different family life than you had envisioned.

Session 3           Being creative about personal time - caring for self.

Session 4           Navigating transitions - endless tears and power struggles.

Session 5           Impact of this child on your marriage, siblings, and extended family.

Session 6           Living with questions - one day at a time.
